Wayfair is one of the largest players in furniture and home goods (Formerly known as CSN Stores). Wayfair was founded in 2002 and with the help of technology they now sell home furniture over 14 million products from 10,000+ suppliers.
Wayfair understood the problem of customers – they don’t only want to see the pic, they want to try because they want to know how it will look with marble design or wall color or with other furniture in the room, and how much space it will take after keeping in place.
It was very difficult for non-designers to really get a sense of how a bed will look like when placed in the bedroom. Will the new bed go well with the existing furniture, wall colors, curtains, and carpet? Will it fit in the space or occupy more space?
Because of these problems after ordering online also users request for replacement with different color, size or want a refund. It directly increases the cost to the company and Wayfair’s wanted to find the solution.
Augmented Reality brings the product in real-world as it’s in the right infant of you. Wayfair developed in introduced an augmented reality features in ints mobile app for Android & iOS. It allows users to visualize furniture in their own home before purchase, just by holding up their smartphone and taping on the product.
Product used to appear in the pointed place, users can change the position – wherever they want to keep, rotate it and can see the actual size, how much space it is consuming, color match with other items and then click on add to cart button to purchase.
And because of the 3D images, users can walk around it to see how it looks from different size. They can see how it fits in the room without measuring tape and lot more features were available for the users now to try before buying any furniture.
It helped users to buy confidently and decreased post-sales service, return and because of the AR features users engagement grow faster, which lead to an increase in sales.
“Leveraging augmented reality, the Wayfair app allows shoppers to transform their homes into virtual showrooms, allowing them to see their favorite products up close and at every angle – all in their very own space,” said Steve Conine, co-founder, and co-chairman, Wayfair, in a statement about the AR feature’s release.
